In this study, the cream was formulated from the plant extract containing anti-oxidant ingredient Embelin and its quality control evaluation performed along with the antioxidant activity. The alcohol extract of the plant was used. The extract was tested for antioxidant activity by superoxide scavenging activity. Quality evaluation of the product was assessed by using different evaluation methods. The stability study was also performed, and no changes in the physical properties were observed. The formulations showed good spreadability, no evidence of phase separation and good consistency during this study period. The cream was found to be stable during the stability study. From the present study, it was concluded that it is possible to develop creams containing herbal extract having antioxidant...

Many plants used as traditional medicine. Pharmacognostic studies of crude drug play a very important role in the identification of the purity and quality of crude drugs. The present study deals with the pharmacognostic, preliminary phytochemical investigation of Cynodon dactylon Persoon belonging to family Poaceae. In this, pharmacognostic studies are concerned for the determination of physicochemical parameters like ash values, extractive values, and loss on drying fluorescence analysis also the macroscopic and microscopic evaluation carried out. .The leaves were subjected to successive soxhlation using petroleum ether, ethyl acetate, alcohol, and water. The extracts thus obtained were studied for preliminary phytochemical investigation for detection of the presence of various chemical constituents like alkaloids, glycosides, steroids, tannins, saponins, fats and oils, flavonoids,...

A rapid, simple, selective and precise UV-Visible spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of Curcumin in bulk and nano-formulation. The spectrophotometric detection was carried out at an absorption maximum of 421 nm using methanol as solvent. The method was validated for various validation parameters. The linearity range was found to be 5-25 μg/ml with a correlation coefficient of 0.9997. The accuracy was found to be within the limit. The LOD and LOQ were found to be 0.4 and 1.21 μg/ml; respectively. The results demonstrated that the method could be conveniently employed for routine quality control analysis of Curcumin in bulk and...

Rauwolfia serpentina has a great reputation as a miracle medicinal plant, reported in various texts of the indigenous system of medicine. As, free radicals and diseases have great correlation; therefore, in the present study, free radical scavenging activity of methanolic extract (MET) of rhizomes of mature Rauwolfia serpentina was investigated by using CCl4 induced hepatotoxicity model in albino rats. The MET exhibited significant free radical scavenging activity by showing increased levels glutathione peroxidase (GPX), glutathione-S-transferase (GST), glutathione reductase (GRD), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione (GSH) and decreased the level of lipid peroxidation (LPO). The MET, at a dose level of 400 mg kg-1 showed significant free radical scavenging activity against CCl4 induced liver injury in rats. MET of R. serpentine had been shown prominent antioxidant activity and CCl4 intoxicated liver recovery towards...

Background: Gilbert’s syndrome (GS) is the most common form of congenital, non haemolytic, mild unconjugated hyperbilirubinaemia. Familial cases linked with mutation in enzyme UDP glucuronosyl transferase 1 producing decreased conjugation of bilirubin which accumulates in the form of unconjugated bilirubin. Hyperbilirubinaemia is mild (<6 mg/dl) while liver enzymes & histology are always found normal. It is clinically characterized by vague symptoms like loss of appetite, abdominal pain, weight loss and mild Jaundice. A review of Unani literature showed disease similarity clinically with Su-e-Mizaj Jigar Har Yabis, with dominating features of Safra (yellow bile). Material and Methods: We report our experience with such a case of GS by validated integrative assessment and management with Unani medicine e.g. Arqayat (Makoh+Kasni+Biranjasif), Jigreen, Sharbat-e-Bazoori and Majoon Dabid-ul-Ward along with a short review of literature. Results were analyzed based on clinical and LFT outcomes. Results: Significant symptomatic relief was achieved over 5 weeks of treatment. Bilirubin levels normalized but rose after 5 weeks. Literature review showed disease similarity with Su-e-Mizaj Har Yabis Sadaa which...
