Editorial Process

All manuscripts submitted to the International Journal of Pharmacognosy (IJP) are processed through a structured editorial workflow. Each manuscript is first acknowledged by the Editorial Office and then checked for suitability with the journal’s aims, scope, format and submission requirements.

The manuscript is initially reviewed by the editorial team for originality, scientific relevance, technical quality, ethical compliance, plagiarism, presentation and adherence to IJP author guidelines. Manuscripts with insufficient originality, serious scientific or technical flaws, poor presentation, ethical concerns or non-compliance with journal instructions may be returned to the authors or rejected before external peer review.

Manuscripts found suitable for further evaluation are sent to expert reviewers for scientific assessment. The reviewers’ comments and suggestions are communicated to the corresponding author. If revision is required, authors must submit a revised manuscript along with a point-by-point response to the reviewer and editorial comments.

The revised manuscript may be re-evaluated by the editors and/or reviewers. The process may continue until the editors and reviewers are satisfied with the scientific quality, clarity, ethical compliance and presentation of the manuscript.

After acceptance, the manuscript is processed for copyediting, formatting and galley proof preparation. Page proofs are sent to the corresponding author for checking. Authors are expected to return corrected proofs within the specified time. The final publication is completed after editorial approval and production processing.

The final decision regarding acceptance, revision or rejection of any manuscript rests with the Editor-in-Chief or the designated editorial authority of IJP.

Peer Review Process

The International Journal of Pharmacognosy (IJP) follows a peer-review process to ensure the quality, originality, scientific accuracy and ethical integrity of published articles. All submitted manuscripts are first screened by the editorial team before being sent for peer review.

IJP follows a double-blind peer-review system. In this process, the identities of both authors and reviewers are kept confidential as far as possible during the review process. Manuscripts are evaluated by subject experts who assess the scientific merit, methodology, originality, clarity, data presentation, interpretation, references and relevance of the work to pharmacognosy, natural products and allied pharmaceutical sciences.

Reviewers may recommend acceptance, minor revision, major revision or rejection of the manuscript. Their comments are communicated to the corresponding author for necessary revision and clarification. Authors are required to submit a revised manuscript along with a detailed point-by-point response to all reviewer comments.

The editorial team evaluates the revised submission and may seek further reviewer opinion where required. The final decision is based on reviewer recommendations, editorial assessment, ethical compliance, originality and suitability for publication in IJP.

The peer-review process is conducted with fairness, confidentiality and academic integrity. Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive and unbiased comments. Any conflict of interest must be disclosed by reviewers, authors and editors.

Review and Publication Timeline

The International Journal of Pharmacognosy (IJP) follows a systematic review and publication timeline to ensure quality, transparency and timely processing of manuscripts.

After submission, the manuscript is acknowledged by the Editorial Office and screened for scope, originality, formatting, plagiarism and ethical compliance. Manuscripts that meet the basic requirements are forwarded for peer review by subject experts.

The peer-review process generally takes 1–2 months, depending on the availability of reviewers, quality of the manuscript, extent of revisions required and response time from authors. Manuscripts requiring major revision may take additional time for re-evaluation.

After receiving reviewer comments, the corresponding author is required to submit a revised manuscript along with a point-by-point response to all comments. The revised manuscript is evaluated by the editorial team and may be sent again to reviewers, if necessary.

Once the manuscript is accepted, it is processed for copyediting, formatting and galley proof preparation. Page proofs are sent to the corresponding author for final checking. The author should return corrected proofs within the specified time to avoid delay in publication.

Final publication depends on completion of peer review, revision, acceptance, proof correction, publication formalities and issue scheduling. IJP publishes monthly issues in both online and print formats.
