The spermicidal activity of Elettaria cardamomum and Cuminum cyminum seed extracts have been studied to evaluate the effective concentration to immobilize and kill 100% of sperm within 20 s, and the sperm function of rat is studied to find the effect on sperm membrane integrity. Sander and Cramer’s test was used to study the spermicidal activity of Elettaria cardamomum and Cuminum cyminum. Sperm viability and sperm morphology were studied using Eosin-Nigrosin staining technique. Stability of the extracts was studied by storage of extracts at –20 °C. Under the test conditions, minimum effective spermicidal concentrations for Elettaria cardamomum and Cuminum cyminum seeds extract are 1 mg/million sperm and 5 mg/million sperm respectively. The effect of the extract on morphology and viability of sperm was also studied, and no change was observed in the morphology of head, midpiece, and tail and no viable sperm seen. In continuation of our study we have screened out the root, leaf, and stem of C. viscosum against rice weevil, S. oryzae extracted into ethanol, ethyl acetate, and chloroform. A correlation was found between the insecticidal and repellent activity observed by residual film assay technique and repellency test. It is interesting to note that these plant extracts showed higher to less mortality activity by using 3.93, 1.97, 0.98, 0.49 and 0.25 mg-cm-2 doses. From the overall assessment suggested that the root extracts showed most potency. Ethanol fraction of root extract exposed 44-84% mortality with 0.39 mg/ml of LC50 value at 72 h of exposure and 95% confidence limit was 0.19 – 0.80. Repellency test carried out ethanol fraction. All the extracts showed 100% repellency (Class V category repellency) in dose no 1 to a dose no 5. Objective: Phytochemical and pharmacological investigation on the leaves of Mimusops elengi Linn. for wound healing and in-vivo antioxidant activity in albino mice. Material and Methods: The methanolic extract of leaves of Mimusops elengi was studied for its wound healing effect on excision wound model in mice and in-vivo antioxidant activity at the dose level using a biochemical estimation of blood serum in mice. Result: Preliminary phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of saponin, carbohydrate, glycosides, flavonoids, tannin and phenolic compounds. Mimusops elengi methanolic extract (MEME) was examined for wound healing activity in the form of ointment in excision wound model in mice. The extract ointment showed a considerable response in the above model as compared to standard drug Betadine ointment regarding wound contracting ability, wound closure time.
