The demand for today’s chemistry is finding an efficient alternative to synthetic indicators. Acid-base titration was conducted using natural indicators in the present research work. The natural indicator is prepared from Jasminum sambac, the most commonly occurring plant. The ethanolic flower extract was used as a natural indicator. For acid-base titration, Hydrochloric acid (HCl) as strong acid and Acetic acid (CH3COOH) used as a weak acid, and Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) were chosen as a strong base. Successful results were achieved when it was examined by using standard synthetic indicators. Titration shows colour change at the point of equivalence. Thus, for acid-base titration at any dilution, natural indicators from flowers can be used. Titration with natural indicator from ethanolic flower extract of Jasminum sambac has not yet been performed by any research team. It is very simple and economical to use ethanolic flower extract of Jasminum sambac as an indicator as it provides the same outcome accuracy as that provided by the synthetic...

Context: Dhamaso, botanically known as a Fagonia Arabica is an important plant in Ayurveda and in folklore medicine, but little is known about its pharmacognostic evaluation. Objectives: In the present investigation, the detailed pharmacognostic study of Fagonia arabica stem is carried out to lay down the standards which could be useful in future experimental studies. Materials & Methods: The present study included macroscopy, microscopy, preliminary phytochemical screening, and physicochemical evaluation. Results: Macroscopy reveals the organoleptic properties of the stem, and the microscopic study shows the presence uni-seriate to tri-seriate medullary rays and brownish matter in pith region as diagnostic characters. Water-soluble ash value is more than acid insoluble ash indicates that the acid-insoluble siliceous matter was less than that of water-soluble ash. The preliminary phytochemical investigations indicate the presence of glycosides, flavonoids, saponins, sterols, carbohydrates, amino acids,...

The plant Bauhinia varigata is a medium-sized tree found throughout India, ascending to an altitude 1350 m in the Himalayas. It is a species of flowering plant belonging to the family Fabaceae. Kanchnar, Mountain Ebony, Rakta Kanchnar are the common name of Bauhinia varigata. The various parts of the plant like flower buds, flowers, stem, stem bark, leaves, seeds, and roots are used in various indigenous systems of medicine. For the last many years, this plant is very popular among the various ethnic groups in India for the curing of a number of diseases. Traditionally, it is used in the treatment of diarrhea, dysentery, Goiter, Tumor and Kapha- Pitta dosha disorders while flowers have Pittaghna (Pacify pitta dosha), piles, constipation, and leprosy. There are a number of phytochemicals isolated from the various part of kanchnar such as flavonoids, kaempferol, ombuin, hesperidine, triterpenecaffeate, flavonol glycosides, flavanone, stigmasteroles, octacosanol, Phenanthraquinone, protein, calcium and phosphorous, volatile oil, germacrene D, quercetin, rutin, etc. Upon medicinal and biological studies, anti-inflammatory & analgesic activity, chelation...

Spinach is a leafy green flowering plant. The leaves are a common edible vegetable consumed by fresh leaves. The bioactive components present in the Spinach oleracea plant leaves are known to be responsible for its medicinal properties. The present study was undertaken to compare the effect of different extraction solvents to extract the active components like carbohydrates, tannin, flavonoid, phenol, carbohydrate from the dried leaves of Spinach oleracea plant. The extraction solvents used were Ethyl acetate, Petroleum ether and Methanol. Phytochemical analysis, total flavonoid concentration, total phenol concentration and antioxidant activity have been identified to compare the efficiency of different extraction solvents. The results shows that using methanol as an extraction solvent works best for the extraction of various active phytochemicals, the total flavonoid and phenols concentration and the antoxidant activity showed the effective scavenging activity. This is the report that directly compares the three extraction solvents for the extraction of active components from the Spinach oleracea leaves and shows that method should be the solvent of...

Kydia calycina, a member of the Malvaceae family known as Pulao, Boranga, or Pula, has been reported for its traditional uses as a medicinal plant. The presence of potentially active nutrients and their multifunctional properties make Kydia calycina leaves, root, bark, and stem perfect candidates for the production of phytopharmaceutical products. It is used traditionally as a remedy in different disease conditions like skin disease, hyperglycemia, antihyperlipidemic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antioxidant, antiulcer, antifungal, immunomodulatory, febrifuge, wound healing, industrial uses, and nutritional important, etc. by tribal of Rajasthan Maharashtra and Himachal. It is important to clarify these health benefits to public due to the increasing need for prevention and treatment of chronic diseases. Although it is used widely around the country, single hand information about its ethnobotanical, phytochemical and pharmacological action is still lacking. Traditionally appreciated for its pharmacological properties by the various researcher’s Pulao is still hardly recognized because of insufficient scientific information. The aim of this review is to summarise all the traditional pharmacological properties of Kydia...
