Background: Malaria remains the most common public health problem in developing countries and is the number one cause of morbidity and mortality especially in children below five years of age. Since, November 2006, Coartem® an artemisinin combination therapy containing artemether-lumefantrine replaced sulphadoxine/ pyrimethamine as the first-line drug for treatment of uncomplicated malaria in developing countries including Ethiopia due to the development and spread of resistance of SP to Plasmodium falciparum. Objective: To evaluate the drug utilization pattern of coartem combination therapy in the treatment of P. falciparum Methods: A retrospective study was conducted from January 2015 – March 2015 on patient cards with coartem® prescription recorded from January 2014 to December 2015. Results: In this study, we observed that the dosing of coartem® mainly depends on age and weight. Plant oils have been used for a variety of purposes for many thousands of years. In particular, the anti-microbial & anti-fungal activity of plant extracts and oils have formed the basis of many applications. Since, Aspergillus niger contamination in leather and leather apparels reduces the export value considerably, demand an appropriate solution. The present study emphasizes the anti-Aspergillus potential of an essential oil and microsphere formulation in combating the A. niger growth in finished leather. A. niger ATCC 16888 strain was chosen for the present study. Both well diffusion and broth dilution methods are used. Mode of action and microsphere formulation and its impact on leather studied using standard protocols. Essential oil (EO) of Acorus calamus L. exhibited appreciable Anti-Aspergillus potency compared to untreated control and standard drugs (Itraconazole & Voriconazole). Aim of the study: This study aimed to investigate the antidiabetic activity of ethanolic leaves extracts of Bauhinia galpinii Linn. alloxan, induced diabetic in rats. Materials & methods: The adult male albino rats of weight 180-240 gm were selected for the study. The Dose of 100 mg/kg, 250 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg of ethanol extract was selected for the test. All the doses were given orally after making an emulsion in the vehicle, i.e., 1% acacia gum and the standard drug, i.e., glimepiride was given orally (10 mg/kg) in the vehicle. Diabetes mellitus was induced by administering an intraperitoneal injection of alloxan monohydrate 120 mg/kg to the overnight fasted rats. A blood sample was collected from tail nipping, and an automatic electronic glucometer determined glucose level. Ethanolic extract of Bauhinia galpinii Linn. leaves were subjected to anti-diabetic activity in rats where alloxan monohydrate (120 mg/kg b.w., i.p.) used as the diabetogenic agent. About 4 extracts (hexane, acetone, ethanol, and methanol extraction) from the seeds of Centratherum anthelminticum was extracted. Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy characterized ethanol extract. Seven constituents from 9 peaks were identified. 2-Oxo-pentanoic acid and hexadecanoic acid are as the major constituents, and the minor constituents like Henicosanoic acid, 26-Phenoxy-hexacosanoic methanoate, Hexadecanoic acid methyl ester, dotriacontanoic acid ethyl ester, nonadec-3-ene, icosa-2,5, diene, and tetratriacontane were identified.
