The stem of Spermadictyon suaveolens Roxb. (Rubiaceae) was evaluated for its pharmacognostic characteristics. The stem was assessed for its macroscopic, organoleptic, microscopic and phytochemical characters. The macroscopic study revealed variation in color of the stem when fresh and dried. The macroscopic evaluation was studied with parameters viz. color, odor, shape, and surface in fresh and dry condition. Quantitative microscopical data of wood elements as well as stomatal index studied through standard procedures. Total ash, acid insoluble ash, percentage extractives and fluorescence analysis in addition tannin, flavonoid, alkaloid, saponin in the alcoholic extract of stem powder recorded during an investigation. The quantitative estimation of protein, carbohydrate and oil was carried out by different scientific denoted methods. In the propagation study through the stem, cutting showed maximum percent sprouting in the treatment IAA 100 ppm (65%) and maximum percent survival in the treatment IAA 100 ppm (60%) followed by IAA 50 ppm (42%). Antioxidant assay by using Superoxide Dismutase showed positive results 96.7% in dark...

The present study deals with the qualitative and quantitative analysis of phytochemical and proximate analysis of seed extract of two different germplasms of Mucuna black and white colored seeds (BCS & WCS) were investigated. Between the two seeds studied, the black colored seed which is in raw form registered higher efficiency in proximate composition as well as phytochemical when compared to white colored seeds. This consequence has followed the same in both cooked and soaked & cooking process of Mucuna seeds. Further, mechanistic studies on pharmacological evaluation are needed for commercial exploitation of these legumes as...

The crude extracts from stem tuber and leaf of Brassica oleracea var. gongylodes in different solvents, were subjected to physicochemical, fluorescence analysis, phytochemical and antimicrobial study. The microscopic analysis revealed that B. oleracea showed stone cells and calcium oxalate prisms. The ash value was high 7.88 % in B. Oleracea. The fluorescent analysis at 366 nm of B. oleracea under ultraviolet light revealed that powder extracted with alcohol showed pale blue colored fluorescence, with water showed yellow color, 0.1 N Sodium hydroxide showed pale yellow and dilute hydrochloric acid had greenish yellow. The extraction value with different solvents exhibited that B. oleracea maximum extractive value with chloroform followed by benzene, ethanol and petroleum ether. The phytochemical screening of the various extract of B. oleracea revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, resins, saponins, and tannins. Anti-bacterial screening in B. oleracea using stem revealed that the ethanol solvent showed maximum inhibition against gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus) and chloroform solvent showed maximum inhibition in the case of gram-negative bacteria (Serratia...

Polygonum flaccidum (Polygonaceae) is an annual herb widely distributed in Bangladesh, India, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan. Objectives of the present study were to determine antioxidant, anthelmintic, cytotoxic, insecticidal and antibacterial activities of methanol extract of P. flaccidum. Antioxidant activity in terms of free radical scavenging ability was determined by DPPH free radical scavenging assay. Cytotoxic activity was performed by brine shrimp (Artemia salina) lethality bioassay. Anthelmintic efficacy was determined using adult Bangladeshi earthworm. Insecticidal activity was tested against rice weevil Sitophilus oryzae. Antibacterial activity was tested by the disc diffusion method. The extract exhibited significant antioxidant activity by scavenging DPPH free radical. The IC50 value of the extract displayed 4.91μg/ml while standard ascorbic acid showed 2.69 μg/ml. The extract exhibited potent anthelmintic activity by causing paralysis (30 min) and death (45 min) of worms and the effect was found to be dose-dependent. In an insecticidal study, the lethal effect of methanol extract on Sitophilus oryzae was found to be dose-dependent manner. In cytotoxicity study, LC50 value of the...

The genus Tribulus belongs to family Zygophyllaceae comprises approximately 25 species which grow as prostrate hairy herbs in tropical and warm regions. In this review, the literature data on phytochemical investigations of the Tribulus terrestris are compiled. The well-recognized groups of secondary metabolites were sterols, alkaloids, flavonoids, and steroidal...
