Present communication deals with the pharma-cognostical standardization on the roots of Agnimantha (Premna serratifolia L. (syn. P. integrifolia L.) belong to the family Verbenaceae. It is an important medicinal plant used in many Ayurvedic formulations. According to Ayurveda the roots and leaves are the most useful parts of the plant. It is one among the Dashamula. Macro, microscopical and physicochemical studies were carried out as per the latest Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India, part-1, volume-8 protocols to establish its Pharmacognostical standards. Curcuma albiflora Thw. is an important anti-inflammatory medicinal plant, which is used in Sri Lankan Traditional Medicine. The plant is endemic to Sri Lanka and unexplored. Therefore it is necessary to conduct a proper systematic study to establish a chemical profile of C. albiflora. Therefore, the current study was conducted GC-MS study on various extracts of C. albiflora. The whole plant parts of the plant C. albiflora were collected from June to October in the flowering season at Sabaragamuwa province, Sri Lanka. Samples were authenticated by National Herbarium, Peradeniya. Hydro-distillation by Clevenger’s apparatus and continuous extraction by Soxhlet apparatus were carried out on various solvents (petroleum ether, acetone, and methanol). GC-MS analyses were performed on various extracts (water, petroleum ether, acetone, and methanol) of C. albiflora. Retention index was calculated of each compound based on standard alkane chromatogram. Honey is commonly used by the indigenous population in Brazil due to its large variety of physiological properties such as ulcers and dermatitis healing. The goal of this paper is to select and to test different types of Brazilian honey to be used associated with Aloe vera as an accessible wound treatment. Three types of honey were analyzed: two produced by Tetragonisca angustula in different regions of Brazil and one honey produced by Apis mellifera scutellata, associated with both water and Aloe vera. Quantitative assays, where bacterial growth curve was analyzed by optical density, were performed to test the antimicrobial activity of the samples. From the results obtained, we observed that the three types of honey studied presented a satisfactory antimicrobial activity. Portulaca quadrifida Linn. (Portulacaceae) is commonly known as a chicken weed in English. In the traditional system, it is used to treat rheumatism and gynecological diseases, urinary tract infections, worm diseases, dysentery and dermatitis. To assess the cytotoxic potential of hydroalcoholic extract of P. quadrifida leaves using brine shrimp assay. Potassium dichromate was considered a standard reference drug. The concentrations of 10, 100, 1000 μg/ml were used in the experiment. The mature shrimps were taken, and it was treated with the extract and the standard in the respective concentrations.
