Background: Ascophyllum nodosum has been used in oriental medicine to treat a variety of remedies, including some neurological disorders. Ascophyllum nodosum rich in phenolic antioxidant (rich in polyphenol) have been identified as major active component exhibiting antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects. The present study is to evaluate the neuroprotective effect of Ascophyllum nodosum on experimentally induced Global Cerebral Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury in mice. Material and Methods: Neuroprotective activity was carried out by global cerebral ischemia on Swiss albino mice by carotid artery occlusion for 17 min followed by 24 h reperfusion. Then after 24 h blood sample was collected by retro-orbital route and after that mouse was sacrificed by cervical dislocation under light area, the brain was removed for various biochemical analyses. Results: Ascophyllum nodosum hydroalcholic extract showed dose-dependent neuroprotective activity by a significant decrease in lipid peroxidation (LPO), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and serum nitrite level in extract treated the group as compared to the ischemia/reperfusion group. Cerebral infraction area was significantly reduced in extract treated groups as compared to...

Objective: The present study was aimed to evaluate the antioxidant and hepatoprotective activity of methanolic extract of Origanum majorana aerial parts against CCl4 induced hepatotoxicity in rats. Materials and Methods: Wistar rats (150-200 g) were divided into five groups each group containing six rats. Group A treated as normal control receives 1% v/v tween-80, p.o for 14 days. Group B received 0.1ml/kg of CCl4 i.p for 10 days which is treated as an experimental control. Group C receives 100 mg/kg of silymarin for 14 days which is treated as standard. Group D and E treated as tests t1 and t2 which receives a methanolic extract of Origanum majorana aerial parts of 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg for 14 days respectively. Group C, D, and E were intoxicated with CCl4 (0.1ml/kg i.p) for 10 days 1 h before administration of silymarin and extract. Antioxidant effect of methanolic extract of Origanum majorana was also evaluated by in-vitro antioxidant parameters like hydroxyl and superoxide radicals scavenging activities. The hepatoprotective effect was evaluated...

Antioxidant effectiveness of indigenous medicinal plant C. roseus leaves extracts and fractions with solvents of different polarity (ethanol, methanol, acetone, hexane, butanol, and water) were assessed for DPPH radical scavenging activity. The C. roseus extracts and fractions contained appreciable levels of the antioxidant activities of leaves of C. roseus at various concentrations. The leaves of C. roseus showed good antioxidant activity (81.70%). The phytochemical analysis of the C. roseus shows the presence of alkaloids, terpenoids, steroids, flavonoids, and other plant secondary metabolites. GC-MS result shows that the important secondary metabolites and their derivatives present in C. roseus leaves extract. The results of the present comprehensive analysis demonstrated that C. roseus extracts and fractions are a viable source of natural antioxidants and might be exploited for functional foods and nutraceutical...

Flurbiprofen is a new non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent, one of the propionic acid groups, which has significant anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic properties. Clinically, it is used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, degenerative joint disease, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute musculoskeletal disorders, low back pain, and allied conditions. In this study, the first-order derivative spectrophotometry method was developed for the determination of flurbiprofen in pharmaceutical preparations. In the first derivative spectrophotometry, absorbance values were measured at 213, 233 and 260 nm. Parameters such as linearity, precision, accuracy, specificity, stability, limit of detection and limit of quantitation were studied according to the International Conference on Harmonization Guidelines. A calibration curve was linear between the concentration ranges of 1-14 μg ml-1. Within- and between-day precision values for flurbiprofen were less than 4.95%, and accuracy (relative error) was better than 3.67%. The mean recovery value of flurbiprofen was 100.9% for pharmaceutical preparations. The developed method was successfully applied to tablet formulations and the results were compared statistically with each...

Uvaria narum Wall (Annonaceae) is described as a hepatoprotective in Ayurveda, the Indian system of medicine. However, there are no scientific reports in the modern literature regarding its usefulness as a hepatoprotective agent. The present study was carried out to evaluate the hepatoprotective activity of alcoholic (UNAL) and aqueous (UNAQ) extracts of leaves of Uvaria narum Wall in paracetamol-induced hepatotoxicity in rats. Alcoholic and aqueous extracts at doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg were administered orally once daily for 7 days. The hepatoprotective activity was assessed using various biochemical paradigms related to oxidative stress like increased liver lipid peroxidation, elevation of serum marker enzymes (AST, ALT, ALP, and LDH), decreased non-enzymatic (glutathione) and enzymatic antioxidants (CAT and SOD) activity and reduction of total proteins in liver homogenate along with histopathological studies of liver tissue. Treatment with UNAL and UNAQ extracts prevented the elevation of serum biomarkers AST, ALT, ALP, LDH, TB, and depletion of TP dose-dependently. The depletion of antioxidants GSH, SOD, and CAT and increased MDA formation in...
