The influence of roots and leaf extracts of Jasminum grandiflorum was studied for its wound healing activity using the excision wound model. The roots and leaves of Jasminum grandiflorum were extracted with alcohol 90%, were subjected to phytochemical investigation. The root and leaf extracts were screened for wound healing activity. The animals were divided into four groups in excision wound model; controls were treated with normal saline, standard were treated with betadine and the experimental groups were treated with root and leaf extracts of Jasminum grandiflorum till complete epithelisation. The leaf extract treated wounds were found to epithelise faster as compared to the control group. Leaf extract treated rats exhibited 61.346% reduction in the wound area when compared to the control of 55.72%. The demonstration of an increased rate of wound contraction findings suggests the use of Jasminum grandiflorum leaf extract in the management of wound healing....

This paper presented the traditional uses of 20 plant species belonging to 14 families that are used by the Santal tribal practitioners in Tanore Upazila of Rajshahi district, Bangladesh for the treatment of diarrhoea and dysentery diseases. During the study, interviews were conducted with the help of a semi-structured questionnaire and the guided field walks method. The medicinal plants traditionally used by Santal tribes were collected and preserved as herbarium specimens by following the standard methods. The identification of plants was further authenticated with the Herbarium, Department of Botany, Rajshahi University, Bangladesh. For each species, scientific name, local name, family name, parts used and mode of uses were provided. All these plants need to be evaluated through phyto and pharmacochemical investigations to discover their potentiality and may help in developing effective drugs for human health...

Objective: To study the preliminary and pharmacognostic characteristics of Ziziphus mauritiana Lam., harvested in Côte d’Ivoire. Identify the drug by anatomy and histochemistry. Method: Macroscopic and microscopic study of the fresh and dry drug and determination of physicochemical parameters. Results: Tree, shrub or bush, 16 m long, 5 m or 4 m, Ziziphus mauritiana Lam. Has bending branches with rounded tops. Its fairly cracked bark is gray or brown, then pale red. The oval or sub-orbicular leaves are alternate and petiolate from 4 mm to 5 mm. The limb, dark green in color, is polished on the upper side and whitish and then densely tomentose on the lower side. The anatomo-histological cut of the limb showed a median rib slightly curved on the upper surface and strongly bulging on the lower side and a broader limb. The inhibitory effect of Juniperus phoenicea leaves extracts on Xanthine Oxidase activity was evaluated spectrophotometrically at 290 nm. Extracts of Juniperus phoenicea showed a potent XO inhibitory activity. To isolate the active compounds, an in-vitro bio-guided fractionation was undertaken by preparative chromatographic techniques. Fractions 2, 3 and 6 of ethyl acetate extract demonstrated substantial XO inhibitory activity (>80% inhibition) at 400 μg/mL. The highest inhibitory effect was obtained for fraction 3 (87.8%). The major constituents amentoflavone (1) and catechin (2) isolated from the fraction 3 were identified by extensive spectroscopic studies including 1D and 2D NMR experiments. These two compounds have no inhibitory effect on xanthine oxidase; it is deduced that the XOI activity of the fraction 3, was due either to a minor bioactive compound or possible synergisms. Oral delivery of the drug is the preferable drug delivery due to the ease of administration, patient compliance, and flexibility in the formulations.
