The growing costs to society and the economy of neurodegenerative illnesses like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, as well as the hunt for natural compounds with neuroprotective properties. Guapira costaricana and Quercus laurifolia have a long history of medicinal usage. Numerous polyphenols and flavonoid chemicals found in Quercus laurifolia have been studied in depth for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities. The two major pathogenic elements of neurodegeneration, oxidative stress and neuroinflammation, are reversed by the bioactive substances. The key mechanisms of action in neuroprotection cholinesterase inhibition, mitochondrial guarding, and the modulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines are promisingly demonstrated by experimental data from related species of the Quercus genus. Although little studied, Guapira costaricana has shown pharmacological action that is compatible with neuroprotection, including anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Triterpenes, flavonoids, and alkaloids have been found in the Guapira genus by phytochemical screening. These compounds may have an impact on neural pathways to reduce oxidative neuronal damage and improve synaptic...

Biodiesel is a non-toxic and renewable source based on, mainly, petroleum-derived products which are often produced from domestic natural sources like soybean, rapeseed, and coconuts, and also derived from cooking oils that are recycled for natural use. Vegetable oils gave the idea of substituting fuels for diesel engines. But due to their characteristics of low cold flow, low volatilities, and increasing viscosity, this led to the research of different derivatives. Transesterification is a process in which the monoalkyl esters of vegetable oils and fats, mostly called biodiesels, are used to gain energy for fuel. Biofuels are fuels derived from organic materials such as plants, algae, or farm waste. They offer an attractive alternative to fossil fuels by providing a renewable and high-power source of energy. Jatropha, Jojoba, Soyabean, etc., are used as the raw materials for the generation of biofuels from 1st generation biofuels. Alcohols, Dimethyl Furan are also used in generating biofuels as 2nd generation biofuels. Some types of engines are also used for producing biofuels for natural...

Diabetes mellitus is a major public health challenge worldwide, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa where conventional therapeutic resources remain limited. In Ivory coast, the use of medicinal plants in the management of diabetes remains widespread despite advances in modern medicine. This study aims to evaluate the antidiabetic potential of two Ivorian medicinal plants, Terminalia catappa L. (Combretaceae) and Senna occidentalis (L.) Link (Fabaceae), through phytochemical analyses, antioxidant assays, and in-vivo pharmacological tests. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of flavonoids, coumarins, sterols, terpenes, and tannins in all tested extracts. Extracts derived from T. catappa leaves stood out for their particularly high levels of total polyphenols and condensed tannins. Assessment of antioxidant activity revealed a significantly high free radical scavenging capacity for the ethanolic and hydroethanolic extracts of T. catappa (extracts Ca3 and Ca4), with respective CR₅₀ values of 0.0316 and 0.0318 mg/ml. In-vivo tests demonstrated that extracts from both plants significantly (p < 0.05) reduce glucose-overload-induced postprandial hyperglycemia, with efficacy comparable to that of low-dose glibenclamide. These results provide a solid...

Herbal mosquito repellents are natural products designed to repel mosquitoes and other biting insects. They are made from plant-based ingredients, including essential oils, herbs, and other botanical extracts. Mosquito-borne diseases, including malaria, dengue, and Zika, constitute a formidable global health challenge, resulting in approximately 750,000 fatalities annually. This study aims to address this issue by formulating a plant-based mosquito repellent that prioritizes human safety and environmental sustainability. Citronella oil, thuja oil, lemongrass oil, rosemery oil renowned for its distinctive aroma, owes its insect-repellent properties to a combination of key constituents, including citronellal, eugenol, geraniol, and limonene. We used steam distillation and Clavanger apparatus for the extraction of oils. Three formulations, F1, F5 and F6, were developed with varying concentrations of these oils along with other excipients such as Bees wax, Glycerine, Cetyl alcohol, and Distilled water. The preparation involved separate heating and mixing of oil and water phases, followed by their combination to form a consistent cream. The study highlights the potential of natural oils in creating effective and...

Saral virechan churna and Swadishtha virechan churna are polyherbal formulation primarily used in constipation. Saral virechan contains liquorice, fennel, himaj, pepper, ginger, sindhavmithu, sakar and suddha sulphur, while Swadishtha virechan contains liquorice, fennel, senna, sakar and suddha sulphur. The present study was carried out to establish quality parameters of Saral virechan and Swadistha virechan churna by undertaking extensive studies of them. Morphological and microscopical studies of churna along with evaluation of physicochemical parameters were carried out. Saral virechan churna is fibrous, brownish green in colour, pungent with aromatic odour, whereas Swadishtha virechan churna is fibrous, green, sweet and aromatic. Powder study of Saral virechan churna showed starch grains, parenchyma, fragment of vittae, endocarp, stone cells and xylem vessels, while fragment of vittae, warty trichomes, endocarp, epicarp, lignified and non-lignified fibers, cluster of calcium oxalate found in Swadistha virechan churna. Phytochemical screening indicated presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, sterols and triterpenoids, phenolics, tannins, saponins and carbohydrates in both the formulations and additionally anthraquinone glycosides in Saral virechan churna. The content of...
