Vetiveria zizanioides (L.) Nash has been suggested in the Indian system of medicine as the roots of Usira for a number of diseases such as fever, dysuria, fatigue syndrome, wound healing, skin disorders, etc. (Jvara, Trishna, Mutrakrachhra, Vrana). This will be created helpfulness towards this medicinal plant and for preparation of different Ayurvedic formulations i.e Usira sava, Yogarajaguggulu, Sadanga Kvatha Curna. The objective of the present study is to develop the pharmacognostic and phytochemical profiles of Vetiveria zizanioides (L.) Nash root. The present study considers the detail investigation of macroscopy, microscopy, preliminary qualitative phytochemical analysis, physicochemical evaluations and HPTLC chromatography profiling. Microscopical investigation shows the presence of rectangular cells of epidermis, elongated and polygonal parenchyma groups, oval aerenchymatous cells, cork cells, elongated cells sclereids, sclerenchymatous stone cells, groups of sclerenchymatous fiber, prismatic crystals of calcium oxalate and starch grains. The presence of various secondary metabolites was confirmed by phytochemical screening and HPTLC profiling. Identification and authentication of roots may be helpful from botanical and chemical screening data for developing...

Using the plant as a source of medicine is one of the major campaigns in the field of alternative therapy. This study was conducted to investigate the antimicrobial activity of Leptadenia hastate root. The root of this plant was collected, dried, and ground. The powder was subjected to extraction by cold maceration using water and methanol. The in-vitro antimicrobial activity of the extract was tested against four strains of bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli, Bacillus cereus and one fungus Candida albicans using the agar diffusion method. DMSO was used as a negative control; Ciprofloxacin was used as a positive control for bacteria and fluconazole as a positive control for fungi. The agar dilution method determined the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of crude extract. The phytochemical analysis was conducted to determine the secondary metabolites. The antimicrobial activities show that methanol extract of Leptadenia hastate was only sensitive against Bacillus cereus and Candida albicans out of five organisms tested, while aqueous extract does not show activity against any organism...

The “deadly nightshade” family, commonly known as “black nightshades,” it’s also used as a traditional medicine system in a country like India and China. Solanum xanthocarpum is known to contain alkaloids, steroids, glycol-alkaloids, steroid saponins, glycoproteins, that exhibit antitumor activity. This review explores the phytopharma-cological properties of Solanum xanthocarpum and summarizes its wide range of pharmacological applications to understand and integrate potential image issues as multipurpose medicines. Solanocarpidine and a phytosterol known as Carpesterol are also present. The seed oil contains Carpesterol. Diosgenin, lanosterol, sitosterol. Solasonnine, solamargine, and solasodine have been isolated from the plant. The roots and fruits are used for medicinal purposes. The herb is useful both internally as well as externally. The apoptotic effects and the amount of DNA fragmentation increased in a dose-dependent manner after the treatment with the protein. Authors believe this glycoprotein is a natural anticancer agent due to its potential to induce apoptosis in the HTC29...

Inflammation is initiated as a healing process by the tissue in response to an injury by pathogens, irritants or cell damage. Piper attenuatum B. Ham is a rare piper species found in the tropical, sub-tropical region and mainly found in the southern part of India. A plant has constituents like alkaloids, amides, glycosides, tannins etc., which are responsible for its therapeutic efficacy. This research focuses on the use of leaves of Piper attenuatum B. Ham as anti-inflammatory agents. The phytochemical and analytical evaluation was done for ethanolic leaf extract. Various part of the plant is used for treating fever, malaria, diuretic, and cancer. Piperine is a major alkaloid found in almost all piper species & responsible for anti-inflammatory activity. In the present study, ethanolic leaf extract of Piper attenuatum B. Ham at doses 200mg/kg and 400mg/kg showed significant in-vivo anti-inflammatory activity in carrageenan-induced paw edema in rats and in-vitro anti-inflammatory activity by protein denaturation method for dose 500, 400, 300, 200 & 100...

Essential oils are largely employed for their therapeutic properties, and marketed extensively in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry. Geranium oil is a floral substitute for rose essential oil with its pungent rose-like odor and is one of the most valuable essential oils. Favorable quality properties make the geranium essential oil exigible for food industry applications. Our study aimed to assess the purity and quality of geranium oil available from various commercial producers. The gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) technique was used to detect and quantify the volatile constituents of geranium essential oil. 40 (fourty) volatile compounds were determined by the GC-MS method. The most abundant compounds were determined as geraniol (27.98%), citronellol (20.71%), isomenthone (6.57%), geranyl formate (6.52%) and linalool...
