Thus, the botanical aspect, the chemical composition of Cannabis sativa is approached. This article will not discuss the recreational use of Cannabis. The review is based on information gathered from previous reports and government...

In this study, fatty acid compositions of apricot kernel oils for cosmetic purpose were analyzed. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of fatty acids in apricot kernel oils were made by using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). In this analysis, apricot kernel oils -which trademarked Karden, Organix and Biovitals- supplied from a herbalist were used. The oils were converted to the methyl ester with KOH hydrolysis. Just after the derivatization process, the oils were analyzed by GC-MS. In conclusion, it was determined that these apricot kernel oils which belong to three different trademarks have a similar fatty acid profile, however, there was no specific standard between...

Impatiens minor (DC.) Bennet (Balsaminaceae), a small, slender, erect herb, growing about 10 – 15 cm tall, with glassy stem, with oppositely arranged, elliptiac or ovate-lanceolate leaves and have distantly serrated margins is claimed to have many medicinal properties, but not scientifically proved properly. Systematic pharmacognostical evaluation of aerial parts of the plant has been carried out with focus on its macroscopy, microscopy, physic-chemical and phytochemical characterization. Macroscopical and microscopical features of stem and leaf have been documented. Preliminary phytochemical investigations indicated tests the presence of carbohydrates, alkaloids, triterpenoid, steroid, tannins, glycosides and flavonoids. The result of the study could be useful for the identification and preparation of a monograph of the...

Hylocereus undatusis an important medicinal plant belonging to the family Cactaceae and widely distributed in tropical forest areas. Fruits are used for anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant, antipyretic, antidiabetic and hepato-protective activities of the plants are scientifically proved. The aim of the present study is to evaluate Hylocereus undatus pharmacologically for the anti-oxidant study. The study also includes the Pharmacognostical and phytochemical evaluation of the plant. The pharmacognostic evaluation revealed authentication and identification of the plant and extraction of plant material using ethanol by Soxhlets extraction method. Preliminary phytochemical studies were carried out using various chemical tests. Phytochemical studies showed the presence of glycoside, phenolic, flavonoids, triterpenoids, tannins and reducing sugar. The phenolic content of the ethyl acetate extract of the roots separated by chromatographic technique and the total phenolic content was calculated. Anti-oxidant activity studies using nitric oxide and DPPH scavenging assay showed that the ethyl acetate and aqueous extracts could be promising sources of natural...

Infectious diseases are one of the major problems in the world. After the discovery of penicillin, many classes of the antimicrobial agent were introduced and most infectious diseases were brought under control. However, the increased use of these antimicrobial agents in clinical practice was soon followed by the emergence of antibiotic resistance. Because of multiple drug resistance and adverse effects of these antimicrobial agents on the host, there is the need to discover and develop natural antimicrobials that are safe and with better therapeutic effects. Medicinal plants have been used as an alternative source of medicine to treat infectious diseases due to their rich antimicrobial activity. These Plants contain bioactive compounds such as quinines, phytoalexins, phenols, alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, steroids, tannins, glucosinolates and pathogenesis-related proteins, which exert antimicrobial activity by different mechanisms, such as destruction of the cell membrane, inhibition of protein synthesis and enzymes impregnated on the cell membrane. There are various extracts of medicinal plants with minimum inhibitory concentration against pathogenic microorganisms that are safe and effective...
