Aqueous and ethanol-ethyl acetate chloroform-methanol extracts from the leaves of Ricinus communis were investigated for their anthelmintic activity against Pheretima posthuma, and three concentrations (50, 75 and 100 mg/ml) of each extract were studied for activity, in which paralysis and death time of the worm. Vitamins are essential components of any diet and diet deficient in vitamins is the prime reason for malnutrition. In the present investigation, essential oil fractions isolated from foliages and tender shoots of few Apiaceae members commonly used as spices, vegetable, and flavoring agents were involved in phytochemical diversity analysis. GC-MS fingerprinting of the essential oil fractions isolated from young foliages and tender stems showed the presence of vitamin E and K in appreciable quantity. The foliage of carrot (Daucus carota L.), a popular winter vegetable is very rich in α-Tocopherol and phytonadione. Heterophragma quadriloculare (Roxb.) K. Schum. (HQ) belongs to Bignoneace family and known as Warras. Usage of HQ plant in diabetes has been claimed traditionally, but scientific documentation is not yet available. So, it was our interest to develop a scientific database for HQ leaves. HQ leaves were studied for its traditional claim of anti-diabetic activity by oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) model using normal rats. All possible phytoconstituents were extracted into a selected range of solvents based on its polarity, i.e., petroleum ether, chloroform, methanol, water. The extracts were screened for OGTT at a dose level of 200 and 400 mg/kg per oral. In OGTT study through all extracts found to reduce blood glucose level, petroleum ether extract and chloroform extract showed dose-dependent activity. These results provided the clue for the presence of anti-diabetic constituents in petroleum ether extract. Natural products from plants are rich sources of chemical diversity and most of the pharmacologically active principles currently used as drugs, including anticancer agents are plant products. The present study aims at phytochemical screening and evaluation of the anticancer potential of methanolic extract of Garcinia indica fruit rinds belonging to Family Clusiaceae. The methanolic extract of dried Fruit rinds of Garcinia indica was subjected to the phytochemical tests to confirm the presence of Carbohydrate, alkaloids, steroids, Glycosides, flavonoids, Tannic acid and phenolic compounds, proteins, and fixed oils. In-vitro antioxidant activity of the extract was assayed using DPPH radical scavenging assay, hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity, reducing power activity. Total phenol and flavonoid contents were determined and expressed in gallic acid and catechin equivalent respectively. The results of the study indicate that the methanolic extracts of the Garcinia indica fruit rind possess significant scavenging activity against DPPH (78.1 μg/ml), reducing power activity (0.387 absorbances at 100 μg/ml) free radical scavenging activity (44.64 μg/ml).
