Antibiotic resistance is one of the biggest threats to global health, food security, and development today. Medicinal plants have historically proven their value as a source of molecules with therapeutic potential. The interest in natural product-based drug discovery has revitalized in recent years because synthetic compound libraries and high throughput screening for discovery of new drug leads did not meet the expectations. This study was designed to determine the acaricidal effect of Datura stramonium, Nicotiana glauca and Azadirachta indica herbal extracts against the common cattle tick Boophilus decolratous. Qualitative phytochemical analysis using standard techniques was also used to detect secondary metabolites contained in the selected herbs. The percent adult mortality and percentage inhibition of oviposition were studied at different experimental concentrations of 25, 50, 75 and 100 mg/ml to determine the efficacy of leaf extracts. 3% of dimethyl sulfoxide was also used as a negative control. The study determined the presence of secondary metabolites in the herbal leaf extracts, which can cause neurotoxicity in a tick. Inhibition of oviposition at the highest concentration of Datura stramonium, Nicotiana glauca and Azadirachta indica of the treated ticks were 78.68, 86.84 and 52.63%, respectively. Objective: This study was designed to extract, purify and determine the phyto-components in the petroleum ether extract of Irvingia gabonensis seeds (IGS). A multiple batch extraction procedure was employed using petroleum ether as a solvent. A specified quantity of the IGS was size reduced, dispersed in freshly distilled water by heating to a temperature of 80 ºC. The dispersion was then filtered through a clean muslin cloth. The fats content was separated from the Biopolymer by first dispersing in 90% alcohol, filtered and dried at 40 ºC. The fat component of the residue was finally extracted with petroleum ether. The GC-MS analysis of the petroleum ether extract of IGS was performed using an Agilent G1701 GC/MSD system. This investigation was done to determine the possible chemical components from IGS by GC-MS. Baccaurea ramiflora, which is commonly known as Burmese grape, is a commonly used medicinal plant in South Asian folk medicine. They are potent in treating dermatological disorders and constipation. The study aims to investigate the possible biological activities of B. ramiflora by determination of antioxidant activities of total ethanolic extracts through the free radical scavenging activity over vitamin C and the antibacterial activity using the disk diffusion method. Baccaurea ramiflora Lour., syn. Baccaurea sapida (Roxb.) Muell. Arg. known as Burmese grapes belongs to the family Euphorbiaceae and is native to Southeast Asia.
