The present work was executed to evaluate the anti-diabetic potency of a polyherbal preparation. The objective of this study is to induce experimental diabetes mellitus using streptozotocin in normal Albino wistar rats and study the anti-diabetic activity of polyherbal formulation by comparison of changes in levels of glucose between normal and diabetic rats. The effect of methanol extract of polyherbal preparation containing aerial parts of Schrebera swietenoides, roots of Barleria montana and aerial parts of Rotula aquatica was investigated in normal and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Mangiferin content in aqueous extracts of 30 varieties of Mangifera indica leaves collected from Gujarat state of Western India has been estimated during this study, using a simple reverse phase HPLC-DAD analysis method. The proposed method has been validated according to ICH guidelines in terms of linearity, accuracy, intraday and interday precision, limit of detection and limit of quantitation. The calibration graph was found to be linear over a concentration range of 20-120 µg/mL, with a regression coefficient of 0.9943. Objective: The study was designed to explore the antibacterial, antifungal and antioxidant potential of Jatropha curcas Linn. (J. curcas) stem bark extract. Materials and Methods: The chemotherapeutic action was measured in the crude extract using agar well diffusion method. The antibacterial and antifungal activities of different extracts were tested against two gram-positive and nine gram negative human pathogenic bacteria using agar well diffusion method. Area of the reticence of crude extracts was matched with that of various antibiotics like ampicillin, streptomycin for antibacterial property and fluconazole for antifungal activity. The stem of Spermadictyon suaveolens Roxb. (Rubiaceae) was evaluated for its pharmacognostic characteristics. The stem was assessed for its macroscopic, organoleptic, microscopic and phytochemical characters. The macroscopic study revealed variation in color of the stem when fresh and dried. The macroscopic evaluation was studied with parameters viz. color, odor, shape, and surface in fresh and dry condition. Quantitative microscopical data of wood elements as well as stomatal index studied through standard procedures.
