ANTIOXIDANT AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITIES OF ROOT LEAVES AND FLOWERS OF CICHORIUM INTYBUS
AbstractA study was conducted to assess root, leaves and flowers extracts of Cichorium intybus for their antimicrobial activities (against four bacterial and fungal strains), antioxidants activities (DPPH, ABTS H2O2 and reducing power assays) and cytotoxicities assays. The results indicate remarkable inhibition of plant extracts for the growth of all bacterial and fungal strains as well as appropriate MIC values were observed as compared to standard antibiotics used. The activities of these extracts against four assays like DPPH, H2O2, ABTS, and reducing powder was promising. Whereas the cytotoxic activity of extracts study against brine shrimp was reliable. The phytochemical analysis of the various parts of Cichorium intybus revealed that activities of these extracts might be due to the presence of various secondary metabolites like phenolics and flavonoids those were analyzed with higher quantities from these extracts. Therefore such a study could be useful for the development of new pharmaceuticals that could lead such compounds for the preparation of new medicines required for human and animals disorders.
