Objective: The aim of the study was to investigate the nephroprotective and hepatoprotective activity of methanolic extract of Clitoria ternatea in cisplatin and CCl4 induced in rats. Methods: Methanolic extract of aerial part of Clitoria ternatea plant was studied for its nephroprotective and hepatoprotective activity in animal experimental models. Nephrotoxicity was induced by cystone 16 mg/kg b.w. The standard drug was taken silymarin. The test drug was given methanolic extract Clitoria ternatea 500 mg/kg, 1000 mg/kg. Hepatoxicity was induced by CCl4. The standard drug was taken cisplatin 100 mg/kg. Test drugs were given extract of Clitoria ternatea 500 mg/kg and 1000 mg/kg as per b.w. Results: In hepatoprotective activity positive control group was provided with CCl4 and increased SGPT, SGOT, ALP level compare to negative control group whereas test 2 group was provided with methanolic extract of Clitoria ternatea 1000 mg/kg decreased SGPT, SGOT, ALP level compare to standard group. In nephroprotective activity positive control group was provided with CCl4 increased urea and creatinine level whereas test 2 group...

Curcuma aromatica salisb, which belongs to the Zingiberaceae family, is a perennial herb. The rhizome of the plant consists of alkaloids, curcuminoids, flavonoids, tannins, and terpenoids which are reported to be the reasons for its various pharmacological properties. The extraction of compounds in different solvents shows that the plant contains neocurdione, curdione and germacrone as its major components. An extensive literature survey showed that the plant has anti-obesity, anti-acne, anti-cancerous, anti-tussive, anti-oxidant, larvacidal anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and wound healing properties. The rhizome extract of the plant is highly effective against many human pathogens as well as microorganisms causing food spoilage and foodborne diseases. The aim of this study is to review the phytochemical and pharmacological properties of Curcuma aromatica...

The aim of this study was to identify the phytochemical groups of hydroethanolic leaf extract of Senna sieberiana DC and its fractions and to investigate their free radical scavenging activity. S. sieberiana leaves were extracted with a hydroethanolic solvent. From the hydroethanolic extract 3 fractions were obtained after a liquid/liquid fractionation (dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, and water). Phytochemical screening of the leaf extract and its fractions was done using standard reactions. Free radical scavenging activity was assessed using DPPH and ABTS assays. Tannins, flavonoids, anthracene derivatives, sterols, and triterpenoids were the main phytochemical constituents of the leaf extract and fractions. The hydro-ethanolic leaf extract of Senna sieberiana, its dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, and aqueous fractions and ascorbic acid had respective IC50 values of 191.6 ± 3.82; 495.73 ± 8.96; 165.8 ± 4.85; 50.40 ± 2.65; 19.53 ± 0.13 µg/ml in ABTS assay. In DPPH assay, the IC50 values were 44.8 ± 1.22; 218.93 ± 9.01; 32.13 ± 1.8; 26. 4 ± 0.11; 4.66 ± 0.07 µg/ml respectively for the leaf extract,...

Growing burden of degenerative metabolic diseases can be addressed with help of traditional and folkloric medicine. The purpose of this study is to evaluate an ethanolic defatted extract (EDE) of Cipadessa baccifera (CB) leaf for anti-diabetic wound healing activity in male albino Wistar rats. The defatted and non-defatted extracts were prepared using water and ethanol solvent system. They were evaluated for pharmacognostic study, wound healing activity using animal excision and incision models. Antioxidant activity was performed using DPPH assay. Ascorbic acid was used as reference standard for determination of antioxidant activity. The antimicrobial activity was also carried out by disc diffusion and well diffusion method using chloramphenicol as reference standard. The EDE of leaf showed higher total phenolic content. It was found to be 389.2 mg gal/l. These extract showed good DPPH radical scavenging activity, which was found to be 68.75% in comparison with ascorbic acid. This extract also showed a good zone of inhibition with disc diffusion and well diffusion method. On 16th day, the 200 mg/kg EDE...

Plants have a long history as therapeutic tools in the treatment of human diseases and have been used as a source of medicines for ages. In search of new biologically active natural products, many plants and herbs used in traditional medicine are screened for natural products with pharmacological activity. Qinghao is a traditional Chinese medicine prepared from the aerial parts of Artemisia annua L. which belongs to Compositae family. It is used as an anti-parasitic and fever relieving agent. Artemisinin was isolated from Qinghao as a major bioactive constituent and has been used to treat malaria. Besides artemisinin, the chemical constituents of Qinghao include volatile oil, terpenes, flavonoids, and coumarins. Scopoletin-derived sesquiterpene ethers Sesquiterpene derivatives of 7-hydroxy-6-methoxycoumarin (Scopoletin) are not so common. The aim of the study was to investigate chemical constituents present in the leaves of Artemisia annua after the commercial extraction process of the plant for artemisinin. From the preliminary studies, the compound identified was found to be a coumarin- Scopoletin. The residual leaves were used for...
