Background: Malnutrition in form of protein energy malnourishment, is a range of pathological conditions arising from coincident lack of protein and/or energy in varying proportions which can results in muscle wasting and degeneration. Aim: The study is aimed to investigate the effects of defatted Moringa oleifera seed on skeletal muscle of Protein Energy Malnourished rats and to assess its effect on enzyme markers: AST, ALT, Total protein, Albumin, Ca2+ ATPase and Na+/K+ ATPase. Methods: 16 white albino rats of waster strain (Rattus novergicus) were initially divided into ‘A’ and ‘B’ groups; Group A rats served as positive control and was administered normal growers’ feed while Group ‘B’ rats were administered with low protein based diet to induce muscle wasting for 21 days. After the period of malnourishment, group B was further divided into 3 groups: C, D, E. Group C was sacrificed which served as negative control while group D and E were fed with recovery diet containing 20% M. oleifera based diet and 20% fish meal based diet...

Leucas aspera (family-Lamiaceae) has great therapeutic significance in the Indian system of medicine due to its rich antioxidant activity. The main objective of the present work was to isolate the active constituent of ethanolic extract of Leucas aspera by column chromatography, Characterization of isolated compound by IR, 1H NMR, Mass spectroscopy and in-vitro anticancer activity evaluations against Hela, Hep G2 And MCF-7 Cell Lines by MTT assay. The EELA showed highest percentage of cell inhibition 64.18% in the concentration of 500 (µg/ml) on the HepG2 (Human liver cancer cell line) and significant activity than the HeLa & MCF-7. The present study concluded that the antioxidant potentials like flavonoids, saponins present in extract might be responsible for the anticancer...

This review highlights trends in traditional medicine and medicinal plant research and has the purpose of inspiring research focusing on accelerating the integration of traditional medicines into mainstream healthcare systems. Comprehensive literature resources accessible via Google’s search engine were systematically reviewed and described. Traditional medicines in general and traditional African medicine in particular are described. The historical contribution of medicinal plant research to the start of the entire enterprise of drug discovery and development as well as the pharmaceutical industry is highlighted. The decline of traditional medicine during the 19th and 20th centuries and the revival of interest in it towards the end of the 20th century are briefed. The role of conventional new chemical entity-based drug discovery strategies and associated successes and drawbacks related to medicinal plant research plus subsequent advocates foran alternative approach based on traditional medicine inspired by reverse pharmacology by the medicinal plant research community is emphasized. Overall, this review discussed, in addition to applying the well-established and science- and technology-supported drug discovery approach, adopting...

The process of new drugs development is enforced by the success of herbal drugs in pharmaceutical market. Another approach to natural product drug discovery is to utilize the information derived. From industrial view point regarding sufficient supply of natural product derived active constituents. Musa acuminata has been used of the management of wound healing, fever, cough, bronchitis, sexually transmitted infection, allergic infection, dysentery, and non communicable diseases. This study was designed to assess its phytochemical and wound healing property on the male Wister rats. The roots of Musa acuminata is extract in Soxhlet extraction in three deferent methods (i) Chloroform extract (ii) Petroleum ether extract (iii) Ethanol extract. And for pharmacological activity five group ware created each group contain four animals which weight between 150-180gm. Group-1 is treated on normal control, Group-2 is treated on topically with hydrophilic ointment base, Group-3 is treated topically with framycetin sulphate cream 1% w/w, Brand name is soframycin, Group-4 is treated on ethanol extract, Group-5 is treat on chloroform extract and study the...
